Hessle Road Fishing Heritage

This mural is part of the group of artwork pieces dedicated to the Triple Trawler Tragedy that happened in 1968. The St Romanus, being the first ship that sailed from Hull on January 10th, didn’t have an experienced crew, or a full-sized one for that matter. There was no qualified radio/communications operator on the vessel and this meant that an inexperienced skipper had to take over the comms. All contact cut off on the evening of January 10th and no one from land raised the alarm until January 26th, despite not hearing a word since the day they sailed.
